Katie and John got engaged at a scenic lookout above Four Mile Canyon. The lookout is a short hike up from a friend’s house, a house that was narrowly saved from last year’s big blaze, and offers a view of the fire damage in the canyon. Even with the scorched hillsides, it was a beautiful place to be.

Katie, John, and Kodiak at the lookout point. I was amazed that the burnt trees still had needles at all. The ground is covered with straw and native grass seeds dropped by helicopters after the fire.

This is the view looking out over Four Mile Canyon.

After a few photos at the little church in Salina, we headed up to Gold Hill.

A little wine and cheese picnic never hurt anyone. This was real, by the way, we actually sat for a while and just relaxed over some wine and cheese. It was a super casual shoot and a lot of fun
!

Goat Eye! That kind of freaks me out. One of the goats was being bullied by the others, so he was outside the fence on a leash…

Something a little different – an artsy portrait in an old firetruck’s side mirror.
