Lindsay and Ryan ~ Engagement Photos

Lindsay and Ryan are very good friends of mine. I met Ryan in the physics program at CU (before I went to the light side ;) ) and we have been close friends ever since. Ryan has now earned his PhD and will be moving to the DC area for a post doctorate position, where he will also be married to Lindsay. But before they go, they wanted some engagement photos in Colorado, and I had the privilege of being the one to take them. We got out to Chautauqua Park and Lost Gulch Lookout on a beautiful March day in Boulder and enjoyed a magnificent sunset together. Check out a handful of the shots from the day.

I’m so happy for the two of you, but I will miss you both when you go! It was a real pleasure to have spent such a beautiful day with some very good friends :)

Katie and John ~ Gold Hill Engagement Photos

Katie and John got engaged at a scenic lookout above Four Mile Canyon. The lookout is a short hike up from a friend’s house, a house that was narrowly saved from last year’s big blaze, and offers a view of the fire damage in the canyon. Even with the scorched hillsides, it was a beautiful place to be.

Katie, John, and Kodiak at the lookout point. I was amazed that the burnt trees still had needles at all. The ground is covered with straw and native grass seeds dropped by helicopters after the fire.

After a few photos at the little church in Salina, we headed up to Gold Hill.

A little wine and cheese picnic never hurt anyone. This was real, by the way, we actually sat for a while and just relaxed over some wine and cheese. It was a super casual shoot and a lot of fun :) !

Goat Eye! That kind of freaks me out. One of the goats was being bullied by the others, so he was outside the fence on a leash…

Something a little different – an artsy portrait in an old firetruck’s side mirror.

Betsy and Joe ~ Engagement Photos

Betsy and Joe are busy people. In addition to planning a wedding, they are both graduate students and Betsy just defended her thesis, and they are getting ready to move to Germany. So when the idea of an engagement session came up, it just seemed like we couldn’t squeeze it in. But after seeing Adam and Mariel’s engagement photos at South Boulder Creek, Betsy decided to give the schedule another shot, and we found a couple of hours that worked for all of us. I met up with them at the South Boulder Creek Trail…

The South Boulder Creek Trail-head has some cool old wooden structures. We biked around exploring the scenic Boulder landscape and photographing Betsy and Joe being in love :) .

It just wouldn’t be a Boulder shoot without getting those Flatirons in there!

Mariel and Adam ~ Boulder Engagement Photos

Mariel and Adam met each other in the physics graduate program at the University of Colorado in Boulder, which is also where they met me. Lucky for them I have abandoned a life as a scientist so that I could one day photograph their wedding :) But it’s Springtime in Boulder and what better way to get comfortable in front of the camera than an engagement shoot? So we got out to the South Boulder Creek Trail for some good ol’-fashioned rustic outdoorsy photos.

We just couldn’t not do the old barn wall photo. Unfortunately the doors were locked, so no cool shots inside this beautiful old building. But I’m looking into it for future shoots ;)

Classic Boulder – the Flatirons and dramatic clouds. I love this town :)

By far the most fun part of this shoot was the slack line. As the sun went down we tested our skills on the line Adam put up in the pasture. We did a pretty good job of dodging the cow patties randomly strewn about the ground inches below our feet.

Mariel is improving her balance on the slack line with impressive progress, but at the moment she enjoys a little help from Adam. These two are awesome people by themselves, but together they are even awesomer :) I’m looking eagerly forward to capturing some beautiful images of their wedding day in October. Congratulations you two!

Angela and Jeremy – Engagement Photos

Angela and Jeremy are getting married this July in their home state of Nebraska. But they made the trip out to Boulder to hang out with friends and family, and to do some engagement photos! We had lots of fun walking around downtown Boulder and hiking around a bit on Flagstaff Mountain. We all felt like loosening up a bit before we really got going, so we hit Centro and had a drink :) . Since it’s a favorite thing of theirs (and mine) to do, I figured I’d snap a shot of them in their element.

After a drink we just walked around Boulder, taking in the scenes, stopping here and there for some photos.

We had to get a shot of these guys representing the Big Red. And what better place than at a bar with a few brews?! This shoot came full circle, beginning and ending with a couple of cold ones. Cheers!
